This antibiotic is used to treat exclusively bacterial illnesses. It is ineffective against viral infections (such as the common cold, flu). Using an antibiotic when it is not necessary can render it ineffective against subsequent illnesses.
Uses for Cefpodoxime Oral Suspension IP
If you are taking this medicine in tablet form, it should be taken with meals to aid in the drug’s absorption.
- Take this medicine with or without meals if you’re using the suspension version. Before each dosage, vigorously shake the bottle.
- Doses are determined by your medical condition and reaction to treatment. The dosage is also weight-dependent in youngsters.
Medications that lower or prevent stomach acid production (e.g., proton pump inhibitors/PPIs, H2 blockers, antacids) may decrease cefpodoxime absorption, therefore impairing its effectiveness. Inquire with your doctor or pharmacist about the safe use of PPIs and H2 blockers with cefpodoxime. If you are using antacids, wait at least 2 hours before or after taking this medicine.
