Description

This medication is used to prevent nausea and vomiting caused by cancer drug treatment (chemotherapy) and radiation therapy. It can be taken alone or in combination with other medications. It is also used to prevent and treat postoperative nausea and vomiting. Ondansetron works by inhibiting one of the body’s natural substances that causes vomiting (serotonin).

Use Ondansetron Oral

This medication is attached to the surface of the tongue and dissolved. It is not intended to be chewed or swallowed in the same way that other tablet forms are.

Before using this medication, make sure your hands are completely dry. This medication may be in the form of a bottle or a blister pack. To remove a tablet from a blister pack, peel back the foil on the blister pack. The tablet should not be pushed through the foil. Place the tablet on the tongue immediately after removing it. Allow it to completely dissolve before swallowing it with saliva. This product does not need to be taken with water. This increases your chances of getting a headache.

To avoid nausea caused by chemotherapy, take this medication 30 minutes before treatment begins. Take this medication 1 to 2 hours before the start of your radiation treatment to prevent nausea. To avoid nausea after surgery, take ondansetron one hour before the procedure. You can take this medication with or without food. However, your doctor may advise you not to eat before undergoing chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or surgery.
